February 24, 2016: Now that I have more space to do some cabin crafting at the Deep Creek on Village Drive, I finally pulled out that 16 x 24 stained plywood piece I’ve been tucking away. I want to do a decorated wood floating frame for the bedroom (on Bruce’s side of the bed) so that I can finally take down the rosette I’ve had hanging there for almost a year.
I wasn’t sure what design or color scheme I wanted to go with. I didn’t want to make it as glitzy as the gold foil accented puzzle triangle project. I wanted to go for a more masculine look, but couldn’t quite figure out how to pull it off with my choice of papers and embellishments.
I bit the bullet at last and began applying diamond paper punch-outs that I made from two decorative design papers I bought from Plaza Art a few weeks ago.
Once I was satisfied with the layout, I glued them to the plywood piece with Mod Podge.
As the project progressed, it began to take on a tribal look – one I wasn’t exactly sure I wanted to go with. I wasn’t sure it would match the rest of the decor in our bedroom. I didn’t want it to look out of place. And I definitely didn’t want it to look funny to Bruce (causing him to always look at it sideways whenever he faces his side of the bed).
Deciding that my other paper selections would not work for this project after all, I took some paint samples of deep, dark “masculine” colors that I picked up from the neighborhood Lowes and made more diamond punch outs.
Once they were added to the design of the plywood, I decided that they would work fine. The monochrome colors added a nice subtle depth to the design and didn’t make it look too flashy. Perfect for Bruce.
But then later I added my more bright and color batik turquoise and magenta diamonds instead…and decided to decorate with these anyway! 😀
So lovely. So bright. So colorful. So perfect. 😉
See the beauty…
Breathe in the beauty….
And that’s all I have for now until Part 2 of this floating frame project. Time to find another cabin crafting project to play with. V-
