My Target Handmade Modern painted pillow

My first stenciled painted pillow. Ever. I loved this project. Thank you Target.

I was browsing through Target earlier in the weekend when I came across this excellent new crafting line called Handmade Modern. Among other great crafting tools and supplies, it featured some cool, graphic-style stencils that can be used on a variety of items. Furniture. Fabric. Walls. Or pillows…like the solid canvas 12×12 pillow is also available as part of the collection.

Thank you Target. Just what my crafting brain, spirit and fingers were itching for. To create something new and pretty for my space.

The Handmade Modern collection also had these pretty little pots of metallic paint that immediately spoke to me. These went in the cart first. I tossed one. Then two. Then a whole handful of colors in.

I’m glad I got an array of colors because the combination of different metallic colors – gold, steel, charcoal, copper – looks fantastic when used with a cool, graphic stencil pattern.

 

For this first pillow painting project, I chose to use the steel, gold and copper combination for each diamond. And I repeated the pattern across the entire front of the pillow cover.

I found this project to be very relaxing. I didn’t even mind the bleeding edges under the stencil. It wasn’t the cleanest stencil job you’ll ever see, but it was perfect…pretty, artistic and handmade. It does not have to be perfect to be beautiful.

 

I absolutely love it on my couch. A wonderful addition to my growing pillow collection. Now I need something else to paint. Where are those brown velour pillows? V-
